In this video, Registered Osteopath and Advanced Perrin Technique Practitioner Rakhee Mediratta demonstrates the Head and Neck Drainage Routine used as part of The Perrin Technique, developed by Dr Raymond Perrin.
For Perrin Technique patients:

If you have received a Perrin Score of 6/10 or higher, you may perform this routine up to three times a day.

If your Perrin Score is below 6/10, you should perform the full Perrin Technique self-massage routine instead.

Head and Neck Drainage Routine
​

Nasal Release – Perform for 1 minute.

Facial Massage – Gently massage for 20 seconds.

Head Massage
-
Gently massage down the sides of the head for 20 seconds on each side.

Gently massage down the back of the head for 20 seconds.

Neck Massage
-
Gently massage downwards towards the collarbone for 20 seconds on each side of the neck, the front of the neck, and the back of the neck.

Always use light, gentle pressure throughout the routine and follow the technique demonstrated in the video.

Overview Of The Full Self Massage Routine
In this video Registered Osteopath and advanced Perrin Technique practitioner will show the Full Self Massage routine for The Perrin Technique devised by Dr Raymond Perrin.
This routine may be helpful for those experiencing Chronic Fatigue/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME), Post viral fatigue, Long Covid and Fibromyalgia. This routine is also demonstrated to Perrin Technique patients who are encourage to carry out this routine in between their treatments with a practitioner.
How Often To Carry Out Massage?
We advise you to carry out the routine once per day in the evening before bed by the patient or with help from a partner or carer.
The full routine can be found below:
1. Nasal Release - rest elbows on the table, place tips of index fingers on either side of nose (above the bridge);
Push slightly upwards or, if more comfortable, pull slightly downwards just above the bridge of your nose.
*Ensure that you choose the choose the position (upwards or downwards) that is easiest for breathing and feels most comfortable for you.
Press up for 7 minutes for the first 10 days, followed by 1 minute after that.
2. Facial massage - with fingers spread out apply a little pressure and gently rub down the face for 20 seconds.
3. Head massage
a) Gently rub down the side of the head for 20 seconds each side.
b) Gently run down the back of the head for 20 seconds.
The rest of the massage routine should be completed using either coconut oil or sweet almond oil.
4. Neck massage - gently stroke down for 20 seconds (each side).
5. Breast massage - gently stroke up for one minute each side.
(Divide breast into three sections; outer, middle and inner - 20 seconds each towards the collar bone and not the arm-pit).
6. Back massage - up for 1 minute each side of the spine (be careful not to touch the spinal column).
7. Neck massage (back) - back for 20 seconds each side.
The Perrin Technique Rotation Exercises & Shoulder Shrugs Routine for CFS/ME
In this video, Registered Osteopath and Advanced Perrin Technique Practitioner Rakhee Mediratta demonstrates the rotation exercises and shoulder shrugs developed by Dr Raymond Perrin as part of The Perrin Technique.
These exercises can be performed up to three times a day, ideally spaced evenly between the morning, afternoon and evening.

A. Rotation Exercise A – Upper Thoracic Spine
Loosely place your fingers around your neck. Slowly rotate your upper body 45 degrees to each side, completing 5 repetitions in each direction. Focus on rotating through the upper thoracic spine, keeping your head, neck and shoulders aligned throughout the movement.

B. Rotation Exercise B – Mid Thoracic Spine
Fold your arms across your shoulders. Slowly rotate 45 degrees to each side, completing 5 repetitions in each direction. Focus on the mid thoracic spine, ensuring your head, neck and shoulders remain in the same line.

C. Rotation Exercise C – Lower Thoracic Spine
Fold your arms around your waist. Slowly rotate 45 degrees to each side, completing 5 repetitions in each direction. Focus on the lower thoracic spine, maintaining good posture throughout the exercise.

Shoulder Shrugs
​
1. Forward Shoulder Rolls
​
Roll your shoulders forwards 5 times using slow, controlled movements.
2. Backward Shoulder Rolls
​
Roll your shoulders backwards 5 times using slow, controlled movements.
Throughout these exercises, keep your shoulders as relaxed as possible and avoid forcing any movement beyond a comfortable range.
