What is CFS/ME and what are the advantages of The Perrin Technique for diagnosis and recovery

The Perrin Technique in London

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS/ME is a devastating and chronic disease that is thought to affect approximately a quarter of a million people across the UK. It can affect people at any age, regardless of their lifestyle and health conditions. CFS/ME has been found in children as young as five years old to people in the last stages of their life.

It is a multi-system disorder that can affect various parts of the body and at first, may present itself as flu-like symptoms. The symptoms can progress either gradually or rapidly and this will vary from patient to patient. The most common symptoms include severe fatigue and painful muscles and joints. Other symptoms can include disrupted sleep, gastrointestinal issues, problems with mobility until the patient can no longer carry out their daily activities and cognitive malfunction that affects concentration and memory. Over time, many patients with this disease find themselves wheelchair-bound or bed-ridden, affecting all aspects of their life, including their career, family life, finances and mental wellbeing.

The longer the illness remains, the greater the complications this can pose later on in life. If you feel that you are experiencing any of these symptoms or believe you may be suffering from CFS/ME, we suggest that you consult us to discuss your symptoms before they worsen. Unfortunately, CFS/ME is still a mysterious illness that doctors are unable to agree upon.

What is the Perrin Technique?

The Perrin Technique in London is a system of manual therapy for diagnosis and treatment and has been developed to provide a positive diagnosis for diseases such as CFS/ME to help understand the illness better.

Developed by Dr Raymond Perrin, an osteopath and neuroscientist, the Perrin Technique in London was first discovered accidentally when Dr Perrin was treating a cyclist for lower back pain and helped reduce the symptoms of CFS/ME at the same time. This was in 1989 when CFS/ME was even more of a mystery than it is today. Since then, Dr Perrin has carried out extensive research into this disease and is recognised for his overwhelming contribution to this field of medicine.

Dr Perrin’s research and the Perrin Technique in London are both based on the hypothesis that CFS/ME is a disorder of the lymphatic drainage of the central nervous system. It is thought that underlying factors such as physical and emotional stress, environmental pollutants and bacterial or viral infections can weaken the lymphatic system, resulting in the buildup of toxins in the cerebrospinal fluid. These factors can then have a detrimental impact on the sympathetic nervous system. The symptoms experienced by patients with CFS/ME and Long COVID are thought to be a manifestation of the buildup of toxins.
