The development of the Perrin Technique

Perrin technique in London

The Perrin technique in London first began in 1989 when a cyclist with lower back pain visited his osteopath Dr Raymond Perrin and complained about chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME). Whilst treating the cyclist's back pain using osteopathic techniques it was found that symptoms of CFS/ME were also diminishing until it was fully cured. This initiated Dr Perrin’s research into the treatment of CFS/ME using specialised massage techniques which eventually became known as the Perrin technique in London.

What is CFS/ME?

CFS/ME is a complicated chronic disease affecting the nervous system and resulting in extreme fatigue and lethargy, pain, headaches, confusion and dizziness, lack of coordination and eventually can result in the patient becoming wheelchair or bed bound. It can occur at any age in life and the effects can be devastating, bringing your life to a complete halt and affecting all those around you too. The Perrin technique is based on the principle that harmful toxins within the fluid of the brain and the spine do not drain away as effectively as they should, due to an abnormality of the lymphatic drainage system of the body. This leads to the build-up of harmful chemicals in the cerebrospinal fluid, such as certain bacteria and viruses, environmental toxins such as pollutants in the air, and harmful by-products from our diet. All of these are normally filtered from the fluid by the lymphatic drainage system, sent to the liver and then excreted from the body by the kidneys through the urinary system. When the body is unable to do this effectively this results in the build-up of the toxins in the fluid of the spine and brain and in turn causes the debilitating effects of CFS/ME. By manually stimulating the lymphatic drainage system into working more effectively, using cranial osteopathy and specialised massage methods of the Perrin technique, the toxins can be removed from the body and in turn combat the symptoms of the disease.
