The Perrin technique in the treatment of Long COVID

The Perrin technique in London is an osteopathic technique consisting of specialised massage which is thought to encourage the lymphatic drainage system to help remove toxins from the body, enabling healthy bodily functions and improving overall wellbeing. It is a technique which has been developed, highly researched and successfully established over the last few decades by Dr Raymond Perrin, an osteopath and specialist in the field.

Here at Rakhee Osteopathy we are proud practitioners of the Perrin technique in London and in the last 13 years we have been recognised for our excellence in our practice by Dr Raymond Perrin himself.

What is long COVID?

Coronavirus is a multi systemic disease which results in the inflammation of blood vessels and can affect the cardiovascular system and other organ systems. Our lungs are vital in providing oxygen around our body and when these are affected it can result in breathlessness, coughing and fever. The acute phase of this disease can disappear however it can have lasting effects on the physiology of the body. There can be neurological effects, cardiovascular effects, breathing issues and ongoing coughs, but most commonly despite a full recovery it can result in long-term tiredness and lethargy. This may not seem serious to begin with, but it could be a sign of other underlying issues and it may affect your daily activities and cause complications in the future.

The similarities of chronic fatigue syndrome and Long COVID

Chronic fatigue syndrome or CFS/ME is a mysterious illness which is also a complex disease. It is thought to be caused by dysfunction of the lymphatic system and a build up of toxins in the body including a virus or an infection. It results in extreme tiredness and lethargy and similar to COVID, it can affect people from all walks of life. The symptoms of fatigue experienced in Long COVID have been found to be very similar to that of CFS/ME. Over the years we have found the Perrin technique in London to be beneficial for patients suffering from this disease. It began when a cyclist visited Dr Raymond Perrin for osteopathic treatment to help address his lower back pain, who was also suffering from symptoms of CFS/ME. Whilst treating his lower back pain with osteopathic techniques Dr Raymond unwittingly helped combat the cyclist’s symptoms of CFS/ME at the same time. Since then the Perrin technique in London has been used to help reduce the symptoms of CFS/ME for many years now and the NHS have also carried out a study to assess the advantages of this technique in combating the disease. Here at Rakhee Osteopathy we have found that the treatment can help benefit patients with Long COVID and ease their symptoms also.
