Over the last two years, we have heard the term long COVID, which we have not come across before. Long COVID is characterised by a set of symptoms that last typically for a month or longer after the onset of COVID-19 with no alternative diagnosis. The symptoms can go away and then come back again, and some patients do not have any symptoms early on but develop symptoms many months later. The cause of long COVID is still unknown, but much research is being carried out across the world to try and find an answer.
The symptoms themselves, however, are similar to the symptoms exhibited by patients suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME). CFS/ME is a multisystem disorder also thought to be a result of a trigger such as a virus, in which patients suffer from unexplained symptoms that are highly debilitating and can put their life on hold. Many patients suffering from CFS/ME find themselves in a wheelchair or even bed-bound. Similarly, some patients who suffer from long COVID can experience a disability or condition that can affect the rest of their life.
The Perrin Technique for understanding and managing your symptoms more effectively
Speak to us at Rakhee Osteopathy and book a consultation with our award-winning practitioner of The Perrin Technique London. Here at Rakhee Osteopathy, we can discuss your symptoms and look at your medical history to find an explanation for your symptoms and provide you with a positive diagnosis where possible.
The Perrin Technique London was developed by Dr Raymond Perrin who was treating a cyclist for back pain and inadvertently helped combat their symptoms of CFS/ME. As the symptoms of long COVID are very similar to those of CFS/ME, we have been using The Perrin Technique London here at Rakhee Osteopathy over the last 2 years to help patients manage long COVID symptoms, improving their health and well-being. Patients with long COVID present with shortness of breath, ongoing cough, changes in heart rate and blood pressure, cognitive dysfunction, headaches and other aches and pains.
The Perrin Technique uses osteopathic massage techniques to help with aches and pains and encourage fluid motion around the body. With better circulation, we can help improve your well-being. The Perrin Technique is also thought to stimulate the lymphatic system; this can remove toxins from the body so that the organs have a better chance of functioning more effectively. Furthermore, lymphatic stimulation can help manage the symptoms by removing toxins from the cerebrospinal fluid, which is believed to help combat symptoms completely over time.
The Perrin Technique involves specialist osteopathic massage techniques over some time. Different patients will require a different number of treatment sessions, and some may notice the improvement more quickly than others. However, all this would depend on the severity of your symptoms and how long you have been suffering from them; therefore, it is better that you speak to us at Rakhee Osteopathy sooner rather than later to help combat your symptoms more effectively.
